changes

So, help alacrity section is coming to a close.

In order to finish this task, I am going to have to make changes to the game mechanics.

For one, I am going to add a generic feature called 'buffs' . colloquially known as 'perks' on alacrity

perks will be able to be added via bones exchange, or accomplishing specified tasks.

perks will now have a duration. any players with existing, permanent perks shall keep them, provided they have logged into their accounts enough.

secondly, the bones exchange will be converted into a regular store. its not going away quite yet, but will shortly after I finish getting the new site life.

Lastly, I will be constructing an events driven system, so that tasks may be added to the game for rewards

This is all kind of important now, b/c the 'help alacrity section' contains many diverse features.

you can hop on over to test and click on 'help alacrity' to see these changes. so far, looking great! Posted by Sin Vraal (#18687) on Jul 05, 2022

upgrades.

So, yet more unwinding of the giant ball of yarn that is alacrity..

not a day goes by without another disaster uncovered.

alacrity was originally designed on php 5. database interfaces back end are no compatible with later version of php.

furthermore , there are fairly substantial changes in the newer versions.

This means I have to go through and recode EVERYTHING.

Thats the bad news

--------------------

The good news.

I've migrated the test server over to a new system. the php is upgraded, the server is upgraded. and its mostly working (I was writing in php 5 to be backwards compatible, so I had to upgrade my own code as well!)

more good news. the shop system is 50% redesigned. I've redone the backend (finished!). and the front end is well underway.

Using the new shop system, I can finish both the monthly shop AND the main shops.

Inventory is also 50% redone.

item management is nearly 100% redone on the backend.

I would have made it further this week, but unfortunately installing and configuring a new server , then cutting over the pages to work was no simple task.

Now that its all done I am back on track!

the update we need, not the update we want

So, getting help alacrity section done this week isnt gonna happen. but not for a bad reason.

1) the monthly shop is essentially, a hot mess
2) the main shops are even more so.
3) they functionally do the same thing.
4) they are made from nightmare code.

in order to fix the monthly shop, claims, custom companions, etc, we need to detour and fix the item database, player inventory, and shops.

Thus, I am halfway through redesigning these parts on the backend. the changes involve substantial database changes.

When I am finished, you will need to login to test in order to use them (which will work off your live data, and credit you accordingly)

So, not the update I wanted to do. I wanted to be methodical, but thats not gonna happen :)

in any case, these upgrades will dramatically speed the renovation process! will keep you posted. Posted by Sin Vraal (#18687) on Jun 30, 2022
