Help us find the bugs!

Due to the ongoing internet apocalypse, we’ve had to move the remaining legacy Alacrity code from PHP 5 to PHP 8.
There’s one small catch: PHP 8 is much stricter. Things PHP 5 tolerated now produce errors. Apparently, “but it worked for the last 15 years” is not an acceptable technical argument.
We’ve checked the code for syntax errors, but some bugs only show up when you actually use a feature. That’s where you come in.
How you can help:
Play as usual. If something breaks, gives you an error, or does absolutely nothing when it should do something, report it here in the comments or in chat.
Please include:
- What you were trying to do.
- The page or feature involved.
- The error message, or a screenshot.
- Roughly when it happened, including your time zone, so I can find it in the logs.
I’ll track down the error and fix it. If a purchase or transfer looks stuck, please report it rather than repeatedly clicking the button.

Real, fixed. The birth job created a puppy, then crashed before clearing its pending record. Later runs delivered it again.

Real, fixed. Inherited stats exceeded the pregnancy table’s limit. Your approved stat cap resolves that failure.

Well, that was a fun little internet apocalypse drill.

Two critical security flaws were disclosed in PHP, the software underneath Alacrity and a huge portion of the web. Both scored 9.2 out of 10 for severity. In vulnerable setups, an attacker could send a specially crafted request and make the server run their code without needing an account or password. That is very much a “drop everything and fix this” situation.
Think of discovering that the front door can be persuaded to hand a stranger the keys. The dogs are excellent, but their cybersecurity qualifications are questionable.
This affects far more than our little corner of the internet. Compromised servers can expose data and become launching points for further attacks. That doesn’t mean the whole internet automatically falls over, but widespread unpatched systems make a genuinely serious mess possible.
We took Alacrity’s public web service offline while we worked. Because our server is old enough to have opinions about floppy disks, fixing it involved considerably more than clicking Update.
We built and deployed the patched PHP 8.4.27 runtime, upgraded Apache, adapted the legacy code, and checked more than 4,500 PHP and template files for compatibility. We tested login/session handling and key pages, disabled the old PHP web entry points, and brought the site back online for live testing.
The initial checks passed. Broader gameplay testing is still ongoing, so please report anything behaving strangely. This was emergency preventative work, not an announcement that player data was stolen.
The immediate vulnerabilities are patched. We’re continuing to watch for follow-up fixes and check the site. Hopefully the next emergency involves a dog eating something ridiculous rather than the internet eating itself. Posted by Sin Vraal (#18687) on Oct 21, 2026

Updates coming soon!

It's been a busy last couple of years. A mountain of code. Not quite there yet — but big updates are coming down the pipe soon.



First off: the frontend that remodeled most of Alacrity is now a full-blown framework. Chat got rebuilt on it. Links actually work, and it loads faster. (The rest of the page is still slow. That gets fixed over the coming weeks.)



Also coming:



  • new login system

  • streaming

  • world map



All of that was waiting on some very complex stuff. That stuff is finally moving. More soon.
